The Path to Graduation

How can students be more prepared for high school graduation and entrance into college?

Texas students entering 9th grade in fall 2007 will be required to meet new graduation requirements called the “4x4”. Previously students were required to have four (4) years of English, four (4) years of Social Studies/History, three (3) years of Math & three (3) years of Science. The “4x4 requirement” went into effect requiring students graduating in the 2010-2011 school year and after to take four (4) years of both Math & Science, thus increasing it from the previous 3 year requirement. The new requirement was designed to help high school students graduate high school and be better prepared for their future endeavors.

The GDHCC wants to insure that students and parents in the Dallas community are informed and aware of the many tools available to help students graduate high school, and are prepared for the transition into college academics or the workforce.

To help students along their path to graduation and successfully complete high school, we have provided information on programs and tools in Dallas that work to increase the high school graduation rate and college readiness. The links along the left will give you information on organizations that provide academic and social support services; college and workforce preparation; tutoring; mentoring; leadership development; and scholarship opportunities.
